In a shocking twist ahead of the October international break, Memphis Depay has reportedly missed his flight from Brazil to the Netherlands after his passport was stolen, according to ESPN Netherlands.

The Dutch forward  who was returning from personal commitments in South America  is said to be working with authorities and his representatives to secure emergency travel documents. The situation has delayed his arrival to the Netherlands camp as the national team prepares for two crucial FIFA World Cup Qualifiers against Malta (October 9) and Finland (October 12).

Despite the setback, sources close to the player confirm that Depay remains determined to rejoin the squad as soon as possible, with the KNVB (Royal Dutch Football Association) fully aware and assisting in resolving the issue quickly.

Depay, 31, remains a key figure for the Dutch side and was expected to feature heavily in Ronald Koeman’s plans this window. His late arrival could, however, disrupt tactical preparations  especially with the team eyeing top spot in their qualifying group.

Fans across the Netherlands have flooded social media with support messages, hoping the forward can overcome this unusual obstacle in time to feature.
